24" x 24" (61cm x 61cm) - Mixed Media on Wood Panel

This mixed media piece was made with acrylic paint, resin, alcohol inks, acrylic inks, crushed glass crystals, glass gem stones, markers and paint pens.

Asymmony is one of my favorite pieces that I've ever created. It required an abundance of patience and time to complete. It is one of those pieces that sits on the side of my studio and I work on a little at a time - over months of time. I always have 1 or 2 of these types or works in progress on the side. It allows me to be distracted by something different when I'm working on a larger piece and need a break.

Fitting with all of my work, this contains a lot of layers. Each layer of the central geometric multi-colored design needed to be completed, resin coated, and allowed to dry before moving on the the next level/layer.

I love working with symmetrical geometric design and used to cover my school notebooks and folders in this kind of work when I was a kid. I also love taking the symmetry a step further by creating a sense of balance and sense of symmetry, but with asymmetric design. That is what is happening in this piece.

It initially appears to be symmetrical, but it is not. It is balanced, but not symmetrical. You have to view this piece in person to fully appreciate that. The glass gem stones in Asymmony rise above the high-gloss surface as much as 3 inches creating cool views from all angles.

AVAILABLE for viewing and purchase.
